Balsam Blitz at Turretbank Wood

CCT Trustee Jim Anderson demonstrates the Balsam Blitz process

Are you interested in conservation and the environment?  Would you consider yourself a friend of Turretbank Wood?  If yes to either or both of those questions then please come along for a couple of hours over the next two weeks to help with tackling the spread of non-native Himalayan Balsam in Turretbank Wood.

This is the best time of year to remove the non-native invasive plant — before it produces flowers. The task is simple: grasp the stalk of the plant near its base and pull it out, roots and all, and leave the stalk on the ground. Anyone can do it!  It’s also  great exercise, and a great way of making a visible difference to a place that means a lot to people in Crieff.
Balsam Blitz work parties will be held on:
  • Wednesday 28 June
  • Saturday, 1 July
  • Monday, 3 July
  • Wednesday 5 July
  • Saturday 8 July

The work will be done in two-hourly shifts from 10-12, 2-4 and 6.30 – 8.30 on each day.

Everyone is welcome!  Many hands make light work!  Just come along to Turretbank Wood at the times shown above — flags will show where the work is happening.  Bring along a pair of gardening gloves and some drinking water, and wear boots and long sleeves to protect yourself from insects and nettles.
